St. Louis, MO, Wednesday, July 28, 2010 — With an extremely active hurricane season looming, an oil spill in the Gulf that could make matters even worse, and local disasters such as recent flash flooding and home fires, the St. Louis Area Chapter, in conjunction with the regional Missouri and Illinois Red Cross offices,is launching today a new disaster relief fundraising drive.

St. Louis, Friday, July 23, 2010 – The American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter dispatched a Disaster Action Team to an apartment fire in the 8400 block of Plaza Rock Court in St. Louis, MO. The Red Cross is providing food and clothing for one adult.

In one of the largest Lifesaver Awards to date, the American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter will feature eight stories of heroism during a ceremony at Chapter Headquarters. In all, 18 people from all walks of life will receive honors – ranging from a high school freshman to a sheriff’s deputy. In addition to these heroes, many of the people whose lives were saved will also attend.

St. Louis, Thursday, July 22, 2010 – Based on the declining need for shelter, the American Red Cross has officially closed its emergency shelter at Normandy High School, 6701 St. Charles Rock Road.

The Red Cross is assisting one family. The Red Cross is providing food and clothing for the family of two adults.

The American Red Cross ­­St. Louis Area Chapter will host the 14^th Annual American Red Cross Lifeguard Competition in support of the Red Cross mission to help the community prevent, prepare for and respond to disasters and emergencies by promoting the highest standards of water safety. 

Jefferson City, MO – Tuesday, July 13, 2010 – Missouri Governor Jay Nixon has signed critical legislation requiring Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) to be present on all basic life support ambulances and stretcher vans. The American Red Cross and the American Heart Association celebrate this important step in expanding access to these lifesaving devices.

St. Louis, Saturday, July 10, 2010 – The American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter dispatched a Disaster Action Team to an afternoon apartment fire in the 300 block of Langston Court in Centreville, IL. Volunteers are assisting two families. The Red Cross is providing shelter to six adults and four children.

St. Louis, Friday, July 9, 2010 – The American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter dispatched a Disaster Action Team to an overnight fire in the 5500 block of Pennsylvania Avenue in St. Louis, MO. The Red Cross is providing food and clothing to two adults and one child.

St. Louis, Tuesday, July 6, 2010 – The American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter helped three families in the Metro East after fires during the holiday weekend. On Friday, July 2, a Disaster Action Team responded to an evening house fire in the 2100 block of Mousette Lane in Cahokia, IL. The Red Cross is providing food, shelter and clothing to two adults.
