HIV/AIDS Education
The Red Cross, working in partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, educates people on how to stop the transmission of HIV, encourages people to respond in informed ways to people who have HIV, and helps people apply the facts about HIV to their own behavior. These goals are accomplished through our educational programs.
HIV/AIDS Programs
Basic HIV/AIDS Program-Our Basic HIV/AIDS program is divided into two parts. The first part, Fundamentals, uses fact-based discussion to reinforce information about HIV transmission and prevention, dispel myths about HIV and AIDS and help participants learn from their own experiences and those of others. The second part, Prevention Skills, helps people apply the facts about HIV to real-life situations by practicing risk assessment, decision making, and other prevention skills they can use to protect themselves and others from HIV.
African American HIV/AIDS Program-The program shares sound and reality-based information regarding HIV and AIDS with African American communities, particularly youth.
Hispanic HIV/AIDS Program-The American Red Cross Hispanic HIV/AIDS Program provides information on HIV prevention in a manner that is relevant to Hispanic cultures.
Youth HIV/AIDS Materials-All of the American Red Cross HIV/AIDS programs provide opportunities for reaching youth. The American Red Cross approach involves providing HIV/AIDS education from an early age and continues through adolescence and young adulthood with age appropriate messages and strategies.
