Timing is critical in life-threatening emergencies. That is why the St. Louis Area Chapter wants to help you get prepared. Last year, over 45,000 St. Louis area residents were given hands-on training in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and nearly 18,000 were also trained in Automated External Defibrillator (AED) usage.
Each year, coronary heart disease is responsible for over 330,000 out-of-hospital deaths. Less than 1/3 of these victims recieve bystander CPR. By engaging in CPR training, you will learn the skills necessary to help oxygen reach a person's brain once their heart stops beating. Administering CPR while waiting for paramedics to arrive can make the difference of life or death - or the quality of life - for a person.
In addition to CPR training, the Red Cross has worked with individuals, businesses, municipalities and civic organizations to help them purchase and place 258 AEDs throughout Missouri and Illinois in the past three years. In an ongoing effort to save lives, the American Red Cross joins the American Heart Association, the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Association and many others to fully support legislation that promotes the placement of AEDs in public areas. Of the 258 AEDs the Red Cross helped place, 65% were placed in public acces locations.
American Red Cross CPR and AED programs are designed to help you learn and remember valuable lifesaving skills and knowledge. We translate the consensus of medical science into practical, easy-to-understand information for the American public. Red Cross CPR and AED programs are available for age groups 11 and older and can be tailored to the needs of specific groups and individuals. Whether you work with children, want training for employees, are a professional rescuer, or simply want to know how to help in an emergency, the American Red Cross has a program for you.
