Volunteerism can be more than helping others and giving time.
"We have volunteers who say they really feel like they've made a difference or, in some cases, saved a life," said Debbie Nash, volunteer resource coordinator for the American Red Cross.
There are a variety of volunteer opportunities through the American Red Cross, Nash said.
The Red Cross has four Adult Daycare and Enrichment Centers throughout the area. Volunteers are needed to assist with activities, meals and transportation.
Volunteers must be at least 14 years old. They must fill out an application and attend a one-hour orientation meeting.
Volunteers at the centers can host an arts and crafts activity, serve meals or provide transportation to and from the centers.
The centers provide van service for participants. Volunteer drivers must have a commercial driver's license and be 24 years of age or older, Nash said.
With the numerous volunteer opportunities with the American Red Cross, there is something for everyone.
"We have so many different things, it's hard for someone to walk in the door and not find something they can do," Nash said.
