NewsChannel 5 and the American Red Cross St. Louis Chapter are partnering on this exciting new project to help our troops overseas and their families that are left behind. The donations will be used for the local Red Cross’ Armed Forces Emergency Services. The money will help in four areas.
1. Emergency communications with the Armed Forces. - If there’s a birth, death or other important information from family members, the Red Cross communicates that message to the troops via a Red Cross representative who is stationed with the troops.
2. Troop Support - Educating the troops and families before they are deployed about the services the Red Cross provides.
3. Family Support - Once service members’ work paycheck stops, it can take up to 4 months for the military paycheck to kick in. The Red Cross helps to cover some expenses during that interim period.
4. Comfort Packages - Otherwise known as care packages. The Red Cross and USO are the only two agencies qualified to send over packages. These packages include personal packages and food packages.
Your children under the age of 18 are also encouraged to send their letters to our service men and women. The Red Cross will screen all the letters and forward them to the troops.
There are three different ways you can donate to the Red Cross: mail your financial donation, donate online or call in your donation with a credit card.
