The American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter announced Wentzville resident Nylin Bathke as the 2003 Volunteer of the Year during the chapter's volunteer awards picnic at Grant's Farm on May 4.
Bathke has volunteered for 10 years, beginning as an instructor in the Health & Safety department and teaching people how to save lives. He advanced to an instructor trainer, using the Red Cross "train the trainer" method to spread life-saving skills throughout the community. He worked to implement the Pet First Aid program and has worked at volunteer fairs and information booths helping to promote the important message of learning CPR, First Aid and water safety. Last year he taught 70 courses and trained 625 people in life-saving skills.
