The St. Louis Area Chapter of the American Red Cross is the recipient of a $10,000 donation from State Farm Insurance. This donation supports the American Red Cross Community Disaster Education program, funding school presentations that focus on the importance of preparedness.
Last year, more than 40,000 local residents benefited from community disaster education workshops and drills built around the newly launched Together We Prepare initiative and designed to encourage the public to prevent, prepare for, and respond to disasters and emergencies. The generous contributions from State Farm and other individuals, businesses, and foundations, allow the Red Cross to provide these educational services free of charge.
“State Farm Insurance has a history of generous support for the American Red Cross and the St. Louis community,” said Joseph C. White, CEO of the St. Louis Area Chapter. “The Red Cross appreciates State Farm’s continued investment in educational opportunities that will prepare citizens for the unexpected and ultimately save lives.”
About Together We Prepare The St. Louis Area Chapter introduced the Together We Prepare initiative to the community in February of 2003. This important initiative focuses the Red Cross message of preparedness on five important and simple steps that every individual should take to prepare for the unexpected: (1) make a plan, (2) build a kit, (3) get trained, (4) volunteer, and (5) give blood.
Recently, a national Red Cross poll revealed that nearly 60% of individuals in the St. Louis region do not have a disaster supply kit or an emergency plan. These statistics further underscore the importance of State Farm’s investment in community disaster education. The organization’s partnership with the American Red Cross will further assist in the effort to educate the community of the need for a proactive approach to disaster preparedness.
