The 11th annual Leader Wedding Fair on Sunday, Jan. 30th, will feature lots of sizzle and snap, flash and flair as 64 vendors of wedding services show off their wares and two area bridal shops send models down the runway in the latest wedding fashions.
The fun starts at 10 a.m. at the Holiday Inn Express, 1200 Gannon Drive, in Festus. A fashion show featuring clothing from the Bridal Shoppe in Crystal City and the Bridal Garden in De Soto will be held at 2:30 p.m. The fair concludes at 4 p.m.
Admissions to the fair will be $3, which will be donated to the International Relief Fund of the American Red Cross, one of the leading agencies providing food and essentials to tsunami victims on the Indian Ocean coast.
Over the past decade, the fair has raised more than $13,000 for local charities. Last year the event provided $1,578 to the Arnold Food Pantry.
The fashion show is always a fair highlight, allowing fairgoers to see what’s hot for the coming bridal season.
Wedding fashions in 2005 are offering a bit more pizzazz than in recent years, featuring glittery bridal gowns and brilliant colors for bridesmaids’ dresses and matching tuxedo vests for groomsmen.
The models will parade to music provided by Applause Productions, a mobile DJ service and video production company from Barnhart. The family-owned company is providing fashion show accompaniment and sound for the fair for the third year.
“We’ll be setting up the sound and playing the music they (the bridal shops) select, and monitoring the equipment while they do the announcing,” said Amanda Potter, who works for Applause Productions, along with her husband John, her sister-in-law and her father-in-law.
“They’ll send us a song list or a CD and we’ll put it in order to the right length, according to their directions,” Amanda said.
The fashion show will be punctuated by dozens of attendance prizes given away by the fair’s exhibitors.
Weddings are all about making choices – some of them life-altering, some not. Today’s special Wedding Fair issue will tell the personal stories of many Jefferson County residents and how they arrived at their wedding decisions. How’d they pick their future spouse? What about the ring? Where to go for the honeymoon?
Enjoy – these heart-warming stories are enough to put you in a romantic swoon.
When you recover, join the throng that will visit the 2005 edition of the Leader Wedding Fair.
Among the exhibitors will be photographers and videographers, travel agents, real estate professionals, investment advisors, bakers and makeup specialists.
There will be plenty of professionals on hand to help brides make decisions for their own special events.
