More than 40 North County citizens became heroes on July 8 by donating blood or learning CPR at Community Heroes Day, sponsored by the City of Florissant and the American Red Cross.
In total, 28 units of blood were collected and 16 people were trained in CPR at the free event held at the James J. Eagan Center in Florissant. Police officers from the City of Florissant and firefighters from the Florissant Valley Fire Protection District were also present.
"The American Red Cross is proud to partner with Mayor Robert G. Lowery Sr. and the City of Florissant for this important event," said Joseph C. White, CEO of the St. Louis Area Chapter. "Our goal is to help people save lives through blood donation and CPR training. By joining in this effort, citizens are helping their community be ready for the unexpected."
