It's Mardi Gras weekend in St. Louis! The Red Cross wants to make sure you stay safe if you're headed down to Solard or any other festivities.

- Be aware of your surroundings when driving or walking near parades and parade traffic.

- Mardi Gras is huge, with thousands of people are on the street, and it is very easy to get separated. Make sure everyone knows where to meet in case anyone gets lost; and give your children note cards with your name, address, cell phone number, hotel information, and pre-arranged meeting place on them just in case. Teach your children to find a police officer in the event that they would get lost.

- Be alert for beads and trinkets thrown during the parade (or anytime, really). Here's a tip: if beads are thrown and up on the ground near you, step on them first, then reach down to pick them up. You might avoid having someone else step on your hand.
