Without spending an extra dime, I've given the Red Cross $180.
Want to know how I did it? Easy. You can do it too.
Every week when I shop for my groceries at Schnucks, I swipe my Schnucks charity card (they call it the " eScrip card") and Schnucks gives anywhere from one to three percent (depending on how much I spend) to the Red Cross. Simple. I spend the same amount on groceries that I would have spent anyway, Schnucks gets a faithful shopper (who thinks they're cool for giving back to the community), and Red Cross gets lots of nickels and dimes from my family. Those nickels and dimes add up over time, and here I am today with a grand total of 180 bucks.
A friend asked me how I remember to swipe my eScrip card when I check out at the grocery store. That's simple too. When I take my debit card out of my wallet, there's my Schnucks eScrip card right behind it. I pull them out together and voila--it's done.
Know what Red Cross can do with $180? For starters, we can provide clean up and comfort supplies to a family of 4- things like a flashlight, batteries, gloves, trash bags, hand sanitizer, bleach, a rake, a broom- supplies that can help a family get back on the road to recovery after a disaster. Then we even have money left over to provide 3 hot meals for the client. And that’s just my contribution. If you and a friend use eScrip and each match my $180 contribution, together we would raise enough money to deploy an Emergency Response Vehicle for one day. Just by 3 people going to the store and buying groceries for their family. It’s pretty amazing when you think about it that way.
So, I'm wondering if you'll join me and get a Schnucks charity card. Together, we can really ring up a few bucks for the Red Cross. See you at Schnucks (in the dairy section, or produce, or by the salt-and-vinegar chips--yum)!

Re: Jessica Willingham- Add "Red Cross" to your Grocery List
Cool. How long did it take you to make that much money?

This is SO easy to do. And SO worth it. I encourage all my friends to take part in helping this worthy cause! We're already spending the money on groceries - how exciting that those dollars can go even further to help someone in need.
