I started volunteering at the West County donor center in December, 2008. Blood donors are very dear to my heart because I am a blood recipient. I am a 16-year Leukemia survivor who has received 33 blood transfusions, equaling 66 units of blood. All of the blood came through the American Red Cross.
I decided to volunteer so that I could thank the donors for the "gift of life". Not only is it personally rewarding, but I hope that meeting a recipient face-to-face gives the donors a greater appreciation of the gift they are giving.
Kathy Lebedun is a volunteer for the American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter.

Re: Kathy Lebedun -- Getting Blood and Giving Back
Kathy - Thank you for sharing your story (and your time!) and helping us celebrate Volunteer Week. I will think of you when I give blood tomorrow morning!

Re: Kathy Lebedun -- Getting Blood and Giving Back
Thanks you, Kathy for giving your self to such a worthy cause. Red Cross blood donors saved my life two times when I was a little girl of five, so I know from first hand experience how important blood donations can be. I will think of you next week when I give at our RC Lindell Chapter. Keep up the good work.
