Have you ever considered donating blood? The American Red Cross Biomedical Services strives to be recognized as the leader in transfusion medicine. We are committed to quality, ensuring the availability of the safest possible blood products, and delivering customer service that consistently meets or exceeds expectations. The Red Cross strives to ensure that every person in need of blood or blood products has their need met. The Red Cross is committed to provide the right blood to the right patient at the right time, every time. This is truly an extension of the Red Cross mission – a constant presence to help those in need.

Each year the American Red Cross collects about 6.5 million units of blood from approximately 4.5 million volunteer blood donors. From these donations, the Red Cross distributes around 9.5 million blood products each year, including 6 million red cells, to patients in approximately 3,000 hospitals and transfusion centers across the country.

The Red Cross is one of the largest blood suppliers in the United States, but there is a growing demand for blood products. There are many reasons for this, including an aging population that requires more treatment, and advances in medical technology. And out of this great need, it is estimated that only 38% of the United States population age 18 to 65 is eligible to give blood, and only 8% of those who can actually give blood.

You can give blood every 56 days, but most blood donors give less than twice a year. It is essential that people give blood more often and more people start giving blood to avoid blood shortages in this country. You can make a difference. Donate blood and help save lives. The process is simple. Sign in and read a booklet about the donation process. A staff person will then conduct a mini-physical. You’ll then donate your blood which takes five to ten minutes. You then get to enjoy free juice and snacks. The entire process takes about an hour.

To make a blood donation appointment, call 1-800-RED CROSS or go to redcrossblood.org.
