Like most St. Louisans, I have only been waiting since last October for this day to get here. Break out the hot dogs, bring on the Clydesdales, raise your foam fingers, and let’s play ball! Happy Cardinals Home Opener, St. Louis!!
If you are lucky enough to be celebrating this self-proclaimed holiday by attending today’s game, there are a few general safety tips to think about before heading down to bustling Busch Stadium.
1. Always know where your emergency exits are. Whether there is a serious emergency, a stampede of fans, or you are being chased by Fredbird, you should always know where the closest exits are- both by your seat and around the stadium- and the quickest route back to your vehicle.
2. Be prepared for severe weather. Today’s forecast for perfection makes me think we won’t have to worry about severe weather, but it’s important to always note “bad weather protocol.” There are signs all around Busch Stadium indicating the proper precautions to take during inclement conditions and signs marking “shelter” areas. It never hurts to know the info before you need it, because chances are this won’t be the only game you attend all season. You should also be on high alert during the middle of our batting order as it often rains homerun balls in the upper decks.
3. Know where First Aid stations are located. “The First Aid Stations in Busch Stadium are located on Level 1 behind Section 147 and on Level 4 in Section 351. The First Aid stations are a service to guests and employees who are in need of medical assistance…Vending machines dispensing trial size items for minor first aid needs are located outside of both First Aid locations” (stlcardinals.com). First Aid is great for treating minor injuries and heartbreak for opposing team fans.
Happy Opening Day, St. Louis! GO CARDS!!!!
