While we here at the St. Louis Area Chapter have dabbled in social media (Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Youtube), we have taken our cues from the incredible folks at our national office in Washington, D.C., notably, Wendy Harman. Wendy is what we call a “guru” of social media – especially where nonprofits are concerned.

Today we wanted to give her a shoutout for being part of record-setting history. At the Mashable Media Summit, Wendy helped to break the record for most online donations made by text message in one room.

You can read the article from Mashable here, but basically to demonstrate the power of this mobile donation technology, summit participants were asked to bust out their smartphones and text “REDCROSS” to 90999 to make a $10 donation. With everyone in the room, that added up to $2,210!
