Whenever I talk to people about getting trained in CPR or Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), one of the most common remarks I hear is, “I want to learn; but I can’t find the time in my schedule to take the training.” That’s why I’m so excited for
CPR Made Simple.
CPR Made Simple is a new Red Cross community training program ideal for someone who wants to know more about basic skills during an emergency, but can’t find time for a full certification class. In just 90 minutes, participants learn essential life-saving knowledge (like how to help someone who is choking, how to use an AED, or how to help someone who is not breathing) and receive hands-on practice.
And because we know just how valuable time can be, we want to make
CPR Made Simple, even simpler. That’s why, Saturday October 2
nd, SSM St. Clare Health Center Foundation is teaming up with the Red Cross to host a
CPR Made Simple training event at the Health Center in Fenton. Anyone 10 years of age or older is welcome to attend one of two sessions offered from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. or 11:30 – 1:00 p.m. In addition to the two training sessions, Cardiologist, Dr. Tim Schloss will discuss causes of and treatments for Sudden Cardiac Arrest between the a.m. and p.m. sessions. Participants can even visit resource tables from various community organizations before or after the training.
Want to know what the best part is? St. Clare’s CPR Made Simple event only costs $5 to attend!!!
Just remember pre-registration is required and spaces are filling up fast so register today by calling 1-866-SSM-DOCS (1-866-776-3627). All participants will receive an event t-shirt and a First Aid and CPR for Everyone Tool Kit that includes a DVD, chest compression tool, practice mat and quick reference guide. Plus, Philips Healthcare will be donating a HeartStart Home AED to one lucky winner age 18 or older, and a youth participant will be awarded a $100 gift certificate for Red Cross products or services. Refreshments will also be provided by SSM St. Clare.
And while CPR Made Simple is not a certification class, it does offer participants the chance to obtain basic life-saving skills. I can’t even tell you the last time $5 provided that much bang for the buck; education, fun, snacks, prizes and life-saving skills all in one day? Sounds like a deal to me!
The event is a joint partnership with SSM St. Clare Health Center Foundation and SSM Heart Institute, American Red Cross, Philips Healthcare and the
Gateway Chapter of the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Association (SCAA). The training is completely funded through a grant from Maritz and will be hosted by SSM St. Clare in Fenton, in an effort to spread the word about the importance of being trained in CPR/AED and having AEDs placed in more places throughout our community.
Hope to see you there!
