This year has been a busy one for the Red Cross. Over the past three months, we’ve responded to more than 40 major disasters across more than 30 states. And we’re just passing the year’s halfway point. But there’s another, more personal, kind of disaster that can happen to any of us at any time - the need for blood.

 

And during this busy summer season blood donations have dropped dramatically. The Red Cross now needs blood donors more than ever. All types are needed, but especially O negative, which can be used to treat any patient.

 

So, we are reaching out, “To all of our eligible donors out there, we need your help!” The entire process takes about one hour and 15 minutes with the actual donation of a pint of whole blood unit lasting only 8 to 10 minutes. Not to mention that one donation can potentially save three lives!

 

There are local blood drives happening all over the community, but we’ll be hosting one right here at the chapter headquarters (10195 Corporate Square Drive, St. Louis, MO 63132) next Wednesday, July 20, from 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. in classrooms 2-3. From now through September 5, 2011 all those who attempt to donate blood at an American Red Cross blood drive or blood donation center will receive an opportunity to purchase discounted Rams tickets ($10-$15.00 savings) at the Rams website, and be entered to win a weekly $250 gas card drawing!!
