I can’t even begin to tell you just how excited I am that the Cardinals are in the World Series. And it’s not that I’m not trying – I just literally can’t get the words out today. It’s like I open my mouth and the only thing that comes out is a smile and, “I told you so.” ;)

Okay, all ‘sassy Lindsey’ aside, I’ve been believing in this year’s team since the countdown to Spring Training, and I never doubted them once – even when we were 10 ½ games back. Just ask my poor co-workers who had to listen to me hypothesize, strategize and numberize how we were going to get there. Regardless how we…er…they did it…our team captured the Pennant, and we’re starting our quest for World Series glory tonight in St. Louis. It’s a beautiful thing.

If you’re one of the lucky 47,000+ headed to the game, or downtown for the festivities, here are a few things to help you prepare for and stay safe in all of tonight’s excitement!
  1. Dress for winter. I know it sounds crazy, considering it was 80 degrees last week, but the temperature is supposed to be in the 40’s for most of game time, so it will be chilly. Dress in several layers of lightweight clothing, and preferably something to cover your hands, like foam fingers! Remember, you can always remove layers if you get too warm, but it’s hard to cheer if you’re teeth are chattering.

  2. Know before you need it. There will be a ton of additional fans and commotion in and around the stadium tonight. Take notice of emergency exits, first aid stations and severe weather shelters. Although you may not need any of those things, it’s better to be observant and know before you need it. I mean, the Rally Squirrel is doing it, so you should too:)

  3. Be aware of changed rules. Since the first lady, Michelle Obama, and Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden, will be at the game tonight, Busch Stadium will follow TSA rules and regulations. So if you can’t bring it on an airplane, you can’t bring it to the game. Check out all the info here, so long security lines don’t keep you from catching the first pitch.

  4. Text or call. Cell phone companies have beefed up service in and around the stadium tonight to ensure that your phone calls get through. But if you’re meeting friends at the game, try to make plans early, just in case you can’t get through. Also texting, for fun, or in an emergency situation, is a reliable way to let people know you are safe, well, and that you saw that incredible homerun.

  5. Be aware of your surroundings. It’s easy to get caught up in all of the excitement, so be diligent about the little things. Remember where you park your car, where you put the tickets, and remember who you brought with you to the game… and don’t lose any of those things:)

And most importantly, the Cardinals were here for our community, the United Way and the American Red Cross following our disastrous spring in St. Louis, so let’s be there for them when they need us most. So raise your rally towels and foam fingers and repeat after me, “GO CARDINALS!”

Happy World Series, St. Louis!

Lindsey
