It seems that nearly all the power is back in southeastern Missouri. It's been a little over three weeks since the bad weather first hit, and the Red Cross is finally winding down its operations. Here are just a few stats from the last few weeks (these are total numbers):
- Shelters opened: 30
- Shetler overnight stays: 6,686
- Meals & snacks served: 331,599
- Staff & volunteers: 226
I've heard a few stories from the relief efforts down there - and they are pretty amazing. If you missed Mark McWilliams' blogs, check some of them out - they are great. The Red Cross staffer in charge of all the food for the relief effort, Becky White, has promised to share some of her thoughts on this blog soon - so stay tuned.
A big thanks to all the volunteers and donors who made this relief effort possible!
