FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, IL (Tuesday, December 10, 2002) – The American Red Cross today announced its health and safety training schedule for Metro East residents. Following are the dates and times of upcoming classes in East St. Louis, Granite City and Fairview Heights.
East St. Louis The following classes will be held at the Second Chance Shelter, 240 North Sixth Street in East St. Louis:
Infant and Child CPR • Saturday, January 25 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. • Saturday, February 22 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Adult, Infant and Child CPR • Saturday, January 4 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. • Saturday, February 1 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Fairview Heights The following classes will be held at the American Red Cross Metro East Service Center, 10218 Lincoln Trail Drive in Fairview Heights:
First Aid and Adult CPR with AED Training • Saturday, January 25 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. • Saturday, February 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Adult CPR with AED Training • Saturday, December 21 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Adult CPR with AED Training provides instruction in the proper first aid skills for adult victims (9 years of age and older) of cardiac arrest, choking and respiratory emergencies. This newly released course represents the next generation of CPR including the use of community access automated external defibrillators (AED) for victims of sudden cardiac arrest. The Emergency Cardiac Care Committee recommends that AED’s be taught with Adult CPR. Cost of the Adult CPR class is $35 and includes 4 ½ hours of course instruction. Participants receive an Adult CPR/AED certificate valid for one year upon completion of the course.
First Aid and Adult CPR with AED Training provides individuals with the knowledge and skills to recognize and provide basic care for injuries and sudden illnesses, including how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED) for victims of sudden cardiac arrest until more advanced medical personnel arrive and take over. This newly released course represents the next generation of CPR and first aid training and includes the use of community access automated external defibrillators (AEDs), which is recommended by the Emergency Cardiac Care Committee to be taught hand in hand with Adult CPR. Participants also learn how to treat bleeding, burns, shock, poisoning, injuries to bones, muscles and joints and other injuries in the First Aid portion of this class. This course is 6 ½ hours and may be split over two days. Cost for the course is $46. Participants receive First Aid/Adult CPR with AED certification valid for one year upon completion of this course.
Adult, Infant and Child CPR teaches how to help adult (9 years of age & older), child (1-8 years) and infant (under 1 year) victims of choking, cardiac arrest and respiratory emergencies. It also includes recognition of early warning signs of heart attack and stoke. Students earn a Community CPR certification valid for one year upon completion of this course. This class is 6 ½ hours and cost is $40. Some courses are split over a two-day period.
Infant and Child CPR is ideal for parents, grandparents and child care providers, will teach you how to help infant (under 1 year old) and child (1-8 years) victims of choking, cardiac arrest and respiratory emergencies. Learn not only how to react to life-threatening emergencies, but also how to prevent them. Students can earn an infant/child CPR certificate valid for one year. The cost of this 5 ½ hour class is $28.
