WHO: While St. Louis area disaster volunteers are currently helping to provide disaster relief for the victims of the Southwest Missouri tornadoes, additional Red Cross disaster crews were dispatched Tuesday evening to respond to severe weather damage in DeSoto, Missouri and the surrounding area.
WHAT: In DeSoto, Red Cross is currently providing for immediate emergency needs including shelter and food. Red Cross is now conducting damage assessments, and providing nourishment and comfort for Emergency Responders on the scene.
- In Jefferson County: Red Cross responders, including Red Cross Emergency Services Director Nancy Bates, are currently at Command Center (at the WalMart on Highway 21) and the Shelter in DeSoto. They are available for live interviews.
- Broadcast backdrop: At 12 noon, Red Cross disaster volunteers will serve lunch at Command Center for 150 emergency responders.
- In St. Louis: With additional severe weather forecasted, Red Cross urges Missourians to take precautions. Red Cross Disaster Services Specialist Mike Thiemann, is immediately available for interviews on Severe Weather Safety, including what to do in case of severe thunderstorms, flash floods and tornadoes.
