Omaha, NE, May 14, 2003 – Union Pacific Foundation today donated $5,000 each to The Salvation Army and American Red Cross St. Louis Area for their work in assisting De Soto residents following last week's devastating storms in eastern Missouri.
"Throughout our history, Union Pacific has stepped up and assisted communities in times of need," said Dick Davidson, Union Pacific Corporation chairman and CEO. "We are pleased to be able to once again help our neighbors and a community that has strong ties to our railroad."
A trailer loaded with 61,776 bottles of water donated by Union Pacific arrived in De Soto on Monday, May 12.
De Soto, about 45 miles south of St. Louis, is home to one of Union Pacific's large railcar repair shop facilities where about 350 UP employees work. Many current and retired employees live in the De Soto area.
