ST. LOUIS (January 15, 2003) – Teams of American Red Cross disaster volunteers responded to a five-alarm fire at the Diversified Foam building in north St. Louis. The Red Cross volunteers spent hours providing nourishment and comfort for 100 to 150 firefighters fighting the blaze. More volunteers will be arriving with the Red Cross Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) at the scene around noon to provide soup and sandwiches for the emergency workers.
Approximately 20 employees were evacuated from the building, and Red Cross volunteers are also helping them at a nearby location. Due to the extreme cold, blankets as well as nourishment and comfort are being provided for the evacuees.
All American Red Cross disaster assistance is free, made possible by voluntary donations of time and money from the American people. To help Red Cross disaster relief efforts in your community, contributions can be made to the American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter, 10195 Corporate Square, St. Louis, MO 63132, online at www.redcrossstl.org, or by calling (314) 516-2800. |
