Editor's Note: The Red Cross assists more than 800 families each year in our community who experience a home fire. Many of these families experience a fire in the colder months, especially from Thanksgiving to New Year's. Red Cross experts are available for media interviews to explain the typical services provided by the Red Cross to fire victims. Red Cross volunteers who respond 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year to those affected by fires in our community are also available for interviews.
ST. LOUIS (Thursday, December 12, 2002) – American Red Cross disaster volunteers responded to three fires last night that displaced a total of 19 people from their homes in the Metro East and St. Louis.
Eight children and three adults were displaced by a apartment fire on Mabel in Kinloch and a family of three on Palm in St. Louis was also displaced from their home late last night; while a fire on St. Louis Avenue in East St. Louis totaling the house of a family of three. Red Cross provided shelter for the victims of the Kinloch and St. Louis fire. The East St. Louis family stayed with family or friends for the night.
The Red Cross will be assisting the families with financial assistance for food, clothing and shelter and any other immediate needs that arise.
