What: The 2002 American Red Cross Lifeguard Competition tests water safety and rescue skills from top lifeguard teams in our community. The city of Florrissant Missouri, winner of the 2001 competition, will defend its award against ten other teams from across Missouri. Local teams include: Bi-State Pool Management, Florissant, St. Louis City, Union, Warrenton and Washington. Missouri teams from Big Surf, Camdenton, Farmington and Joplin are also participating in this year’s competition.
The 2002 Lifeguard Competition is hosted by the American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter, Bi-State Pool Management, Inc., and the St. Louis County Parks and Recreation Department.
When: Sunday, July 28, 2002 from 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.
**Teams will participate in four scenario challenges: 1) performing First Aid on a heat stroke victim and someone with severe bleeding; 2) rescuing an unconscious person from the bottom of a pool; 3) saving an active drowning-victim; and 4) rescuing someone with a potential spinal injury.
Where: Queeny Park Recreation Center (Weidman Road, North of Manchester Road)
Interview Opportunities: • Community Lifeguards. Learn what it takes to lifeguard – the strength that’s needed and the training that is involved.
