,b>ST. LOUIS (June 25, 2002) – American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter volunteers will be leaving today and tomorrow to provide disaster relief services for victims of the Arizona wildfires.
Those leaving today include: George Brother of Maryland Heights, Missouri; Larry Helm of East St. Louis, Illinois; Cathy Stewart of St. Louis, Patti Nippe of Riverview, and Don Barkley of O’Fallon, Illinois. Volunteers Lois Flippen of Kirkwood, Ron Haynes of Ballwin and Don White of Lake St. Louis will be leaving on Wednesday for the wildfires. The St. Louis Area Chapter will continue sending disaster volunteers as needed.
Larry Helm, Don Barkley, Lois Flippen and Ron Haynes will be working in shelters to provide food and water to displaced families and emergency workers fighting the blaze. George Brother will be working in the burnt out areas to assess damages to homes and businesses. Cathy Stewart will be working in health services as a nurse, helping to address health issues such as needed prescriptions and heat-related illnesses. Patti Nippe will be working in the family services function, meeting with families affected by the wildfires and addressing their immediate needs of food, clothing and shelter.
