The class also identifies early warning signs of heart attack and stroke. Those who participate in this class can earn an American Red Cross Community CPR certificate valid for one year. No prerequisite classes are required. Cost for the 6 ½ hour course is $39. First Aid and Adult CPR with AED Training is a newly released course, which represents the next generation of CPR and first aid training. It includes the use of community access automated external defibrillators (AED’s), that are recommended as part of Adult CPR training by the Emergency Cardiac Care Committee. First Aid and Adult CPR prepares individuals with the knowledge and skills to recognize and provide basic care for injuries and sudden illnesses including how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED) for victims of sudden cardiac arrest, until more advanced medical personnel arrive and take over. No prerequisite required. Cost for the 6-½ hour course is $46. CPR and First Aid Challenge The challenge options are designed for individuals who want to renew their Adult CPR, Infant and Child CPR, Standard First Aid or CPR for the Professional Rescuer certifications and "test-out" of the course. To successfully "test-out" of a course the challenger must complete all of the skills correctly and pass a written test without a review. The challenger is responsible for reviewing the materials in the workbook (which is available at the American Red Cross) prior to the challenge. There will be no coaching or training by the instructor during the challenge itself. No refunds are available if the challenger does not pass the course. Cost for the 1 hour course scheduled within a four hour time frame is $20. Pet First Aid for Cats and Dogs is a course that teaches information and skills to help you prepare, prevent, and respond to pet first aid emergencies. Participants learn how to respond to life-threatening conditions such as choking, breathing emergencies, poisoning and exposure to extreme weather conditions. They also learn how to perform rescue breathing and CPR skills, using dog and cat manikins. Stuffed animals are used in the class, giving participants hands-on practice in controlling bleeding, bandaging and other First Aid skills. Cost for the 3 ½ hour course is $25 which includes 100 page textbook. Additional family members may attend for $20 and does not include the textbook. There is no minimum age for this class as long as children attend with an adult.
