Firefighters from the St. Louis Fire Department responded to Hurricane Katrina in an important way by raising more than $30,000 in one day during an organized boot drive. The money has been donated equally to three organizations - the American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter, Catholic Charities and the Salvation Army.
“The kind and caring nature of the citizens of the metropolitan area made this possible” said Chief Sherman George of the St. Louis Fire Department. “On a personal level, we’re always concerned about the community and the people we serve, and we’re very glad to help these local agencies provide important services to citizens in a time of need.”
“The American Red Cross greatly appreciates the support of the St. Louis Fire Department,” said Joseph C. White, CEO of the St. Louis Area Chapter. “The Red Cross works closely with emergency personnel to provide relief services to disaster victims as they begin their recovery effort. This contribution is so important in our ongoing effort to provide emergency food, clothing, shelter and mental health counseling.”
