 Media Advisory WHAT: The American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter will host its annual Volunteer Award Ceremony to honor local residents for their dedicated service to the Chapter in support of the Red Cross mission to help the community prevent, prepare for and respond to disasters and emergencies. Louis T. Maull IV, Chairman of the St. Louis Area Chapter Board of Directors, will emcee the event. Joseph C. White, CEO of the St. Louis Area Chapter and Heather Honeycutt, Chair of the Volunteer Services Committee, will introduce award recipients.
WHEN: Monday, January 23 – 1:00 p.m. (Volunteers and other Red Cross representatives will be available for interviews following the ceremony.)
WHERE: American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter Headquarters: 10195 Corporate Square Drive – Creve Coeur, MO (1/2 mile north of Olive off of Lindbergh).
WHY: Through the hard work of so many local volunteers, the American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter was able to touch the community more than 407,000 times last year. There are many opportunities for volunteers to get involved.
By presenting the following awards, the St. Louis Area Chapter will recognize individuals who have excelled in their Red Cross service over the previous year:
• Armed Forces Emergency Services Award – presented to a volunteer who has made outstanding contributions in the Chapter’s effort to assist more than 6,000 military personnel and their families each year.
• Charles R. Drew Blood Services Award – in recognition of the volunteer who most exemplifies Dr. Drew’s commitment to our nation’s blood supply through their dedicated efforts at blood drives.
• Disaster Services Award – presented to a volunteer who has made a significant impact on the lives of disaster victims, including the more than 1,000 local families who lose their homes to fire each year, receiving food, clothing and other disaster relief support from the Red Cross.
• Good Neighbor Award – presented to an individual or organization outside the Red Cross for making important contributions throughout the community in support of the Chapter.
• Health and Safety Services Award – presented to a volunteer for teaching the vital skills necessary to save a life, helping the Chapter reach more than 84,000 local residents with First Aid and CPR training each year.
• Honor Award – recognizes an individual for continued volunteer commitment, performance and impact in the community.
• Nurse Award – presented to an outstanding registered nurse who has strengthened nursing services through their volunteer contributions.
• Partnership Award – a volunteer and staff member are recognized with this award for their extraordinary cooperative working relationship.
• School and Community Award – recognizes schools, individual youths, youth groups or adult youth leaders who have strengthened health and safety practices in the school environment and throughout the community.
• Volunteer of the Year Award – honors the volunteer with the single most profound impact on Red Cross programs and services over the previous year.
• Youth Award – presented to an outstanding Red Cross youth volunteer (21 years of age or under), who has made significant contributions to their community through the Red Cross.
