Recognition highlights preparedness outreach to students, faculty, staff and parents
St. Louis, Friday, June 8, 2007 - The American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter recently presented the
Red Cross Ready Award
to two schools in the St. Louis metropolitan area for embracing emergency preparedness by reaching students, faculty, staff and parents with important Red Cross safety information during the 2006-2007 school year. These schools include Hancock Place Elementary School (Hancock Place School District) and Scruggs Elementary School (St. Louis Public School District).
The Red Cross has delivered presentations in each school to highlight the importance of preparing for a variety of emergency situations. In these two schools alone, the Red Cross' message has reached nearly 900 students of all ages.
"Because local schools are opening their doors for Red Cross presentations that feature the message of emergency preparedness, students are learning to be safer," said Deane Adam, director of youth services for the St. Louis Area Chapter.
"This year, 15 local schools have been recognized with the Red Cross Ready Award for reaching their students with Red Cross emergency preparedness education. We appreciate Principals Debra Kyle and Beverly Phillips for welcoming Red Cross safety education at Hancock Place and Scruggs."

Red Cross school programs encourage families to make emergency preparedness a personal priority. Presentations are designed to prepare students, faculty, staff and parents to be ready for a variety of emergency situations - from home fires and winter storms to earthquakes and tornados.
