Grant supports Red Cross mission to prevent and prepare for disasters and emergencies
St. Louis, Friday, August 10, 2007 - The American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter is the recipient of a $25,000 grant from State Farm in support of Community Disaster Education. The mission of the Red Cross is to provide relief to victims of disasters and to help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. The important contribution from State Farm directly supports this lifesaving mission by providing funding for preparedness presentations that are available to individuals, businesses, schools and community organizations at no cost.
"The American Red Cross depends on the generosity of our corporate partners to ensure the local community is ready for a variety of emergency situations," said Joseph C. White, chief executive officer of the American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter.
"The $25,000 grant will help prepare our neighbors for the unexpected, and the Red Cross appreciates State Farm's continued investment in helping others."
About Red Cross Community Disaster Education:
Community Disaster Education programs provide training for individuals, families, groups and corporations regarding emergency preparedness, and highlight readiness and response guidelines for specific disasters (fires, tornados, earthquakes, etc.). Last year, the St. Louis Area Chapter trained more than 82,000 people through this curriculum. These free presentations are designed for all ages and can be tailored for schools, businesses or community organizations. The State Farm grant will fund program literature and expenses for the St. Louis Area Chapter, helping to expand its preparedness outreach throughout the metropolitan area.
"State Farm's grant will enable the American Red Cross to increase the number of St. Louisans we reach each year through Community Disaster Education," continued White.
"State Farm has a history of outstanding support for the Red Cross and the St. Louis community. This most recent display of generosity follows the company's commitment in May, 2007 to sign on as a partner for Ready When the Time Comes - a new Red Cross corporate volunteer recruitment and training program designed to boost local emergency preparedness."
"The relationship between the Red Cross and State Farm is built on our shared vision to not only help people recover following a disaster, but also to proactively share disaster education information with our communities," said zone HR manager and Red Cross board member Heather Honeycutt.
"State Farm is proud to support the St. Louis Area Chapter of the American Red Cross with a $25,000 grant to assist with its educational outreach efforts."
