Lifesavers range from police officers, nurses and a salesman to YMCA employees, neighbors and a postal worker

WHAT: The St. Louis Area Chapter of the American Red Cross will feature nine stories of bravery and heroism during a Lifesaver Award ceremony at Chapter Headquarters. The ceremony is designed to recognize local residents for developing lifesaving skills through training and reaching out to save a life. A variety of individuals from all walks of life will receive honors – from police officers, nurses and an AED salesman to YMCA employees, neighbors and a postal worker.
In addition to these heroes, many of those whose lives were saved will also attend.
Preview of Award Recipients:
• A group of SWAT team members saved the life of a fellow police officer during a training exercise in St. Charles County.
• A 95-year old woman was rescued from her burning home in St. Louis by a postal worker.
• A YMCA patron was saved by employees and fellow members when he collapsed following a workout in Belleville, IL.
• On their way home, Good Samaritans from Wentzville used CPR to revive a jogger who had collapsed alongside the road.
• A 15-year old boy was saved by two PE teachers, an Assistant Superintendent and a custodian after he collapsed in the school gym in New Athens, IL.
• In St. Louis, a neighbor saved a man’s life by pulling him from his burning home.
• A YMCA employee administered CPR and used an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to save the life of a man who collapsed during a workout in West St. Louis County.
• After her car veered off the roadway, a passing motorist, an AED salesman, and two nurses worked together to save the life of a St. Charles County woman suffering from cardiac arrest.
• A neighbor performed rescue breathing on a six-year old boy who nearly drowned in a swimming pool in O’Fallon, IL.
