Shelters remain open in St. Louis City; St. Louis County; Belleville, IL; Arnold, MO and Farmington, MO
St. Louis, Sunday, December 3, 2006 - Since opening five emergency shelters in response to power outages that followed a severe winter storm, the American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter has sheltered 604 people over two nights and served 3,083 meals and snacks to shelter guests. The Red Cross is partnering with the Southern Baptists, Missouri Convention to prepare as many as 1,000 meals a day.
All five Red Cross shelters remain open
24-hours
to provide safe refuge from the cold temperatures for those who have lost power. At each of these full-service facilities, the Red Cross is providing assistance for emergency needs that includes shelter, food and health services. As assessment continues, additional shelters will be opened if the need arises.
