
Dr. Samuel L. Katz Will Speak at Cardinal Glennon on Wednesday, April 18
St. Louis, Friday, April 13, 2007 - Measles vaccines cost less than $1 each, and thanks to the
Measles Initiative
, a fund-raising effort of the American Red Cross, more than 1.2 million lives have been saved since 2001.
Dr. Samuel L. Katz, co-developer of the measles virus vaccine, will discuss his unique perspective on the Measles Initiative with physicians from
8 a.m. to 9 a.m., Wednesday, April 18,
at SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center.
Dr. Katz will be available for media interviews following the lecture.
Dr. Katz helped shape one of the essential ideas of our time: that immunization is a fundamental human right. His work today with vaccines and pediatric AIDS continues to break ground in modern medicine.

About Dr. Samuel L. Katz:
Dr. Samuel L. Katz is the co-developer of the measles virus vaccine, which is used worldwide and is credited with saving millions of lives. His career has been devoted to infectious disease research focusing principally on vaccine research, development and policy. Dr. Katz is an honors graduate of Dartmouth College and Harvard Medical School. For 22 years, he was Chair of Duke University's Department of Pediatrics. Today, he continues to change medicine with his work in vaccines and pediatric AIDS. Dr. Katz graciously joins us for the lecture on April 18 to share his unique perspective on the Measles Initiative.
