Corporation recognized for CPR and First Aid training in the workplace, and onsite AED placement
St. Louis, Tuesday, November 6, 2007 - AAA is a champion for emergency preparedness in the community and for its employees and constituents, implementing lifesaving Red Cross training in CPR, First Aid, and Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in the workplace. In addition, AAA has further prepared for an emergency situation by placing an AED onsite in its corporate facilities. During a recent award presentation, the American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter presented its Lifesaver Community Award to AAA in recognition of the corporation's commitment to safety.
"AAA has been a great supporter of Red Cross programs throughout the years and is a leader in making the St. Louis area safer for all," said Joseph C. White, chief executive officer for the American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter. "Earlier this year, two AAA employees received individual Lifesaver Awards for administering first aid to a coworker immediately following a diabetic seizure. These men were able to intervene because of the training provided by AAA and the American Red Cross. We hope that others in the area will be inspired to seek training as a result of AAA's extraordinary example."
A Red Cross Celebration Team, comprised of volunteers and staff, took part in the recognition event to celebrate AAA's outstanding commitment to helping the greater community prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. Special pins were also presented to John Ferrara and Shawn Johnson - the two AAA employees who received individual Lifesaver Awards earlier this year.
The Lifesaver Community Award is an expansion of the Red Cross Lifesaver Program and is designed to honor corporations, municipalities and civic organizations for contributing to a safer community environment. Award criteria includes utilizing Red Cross health and safety training for at least three years, training employees in CPR and First Aid on a regular basis, and placing Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) onsite.
Details regarding AAA's preparedness efforts include the following:
-
Implemented health and safety training in the workplace since 2003.
-
In the last year alone, AAA trained over 80 employees in the lifesaving skills of CPR, First Aid and AEDs.
-
Prepared for a cardiac emergency by placing an AED onsite in its facility.
About the Red Cross Lifesaver Program:
The Lifesaver Award Program, sponsored by AAA, is designed to inspire others to get trained in First Aid and CPR by recognizing local citizens who prepared themselves to respond in an emergency situation. Last year, the American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter trained more than 85,000 people locally in CPR and First Aid, including more than 15,000 in the use of AEDs. Since 1984, the Red Cross Lifesaver Program has honored more than 325 St. Louis heroes. The program supports the Red Cross mission to help our communities prevent, prepare for and respond to disasters and emergencies. In 2007, the St. Louis Area Chapter expanded the Lifesaver Award Program to include the Lifesaver Community Awards.
