 American Red Cross Maintains One Shelter Operation
Red Cross closes two shelter operations as need for shelter and emergency assistance drops
St. Louis, Saturday, March 22, 2008 - The American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter is seeing a significant drop in the need for shelter and emergency assistance following flooding in the Greater St. Louis area. While one Red Cross shelter remains open, two shelters are no longer needed and are being closed:
- OPEN - Twin Oaks Presbyterian Church - 1230 Big Bend Road - Ballwin, MO 63021 - St. Louis County
- CLOSED - Northwest High School - 6005 Cedar Hill Road - Cedar Hill, MO 63016 - Jefferson County
- CLOSED - Riverbend School- 2085 Highway N - Pacific, MO 63069 - Franklin County
Red Cross volunteers continue to staff the remaining shelter while providing meals and snacks to evacuees. In addition, Red Cross workers are conducting damage assessments in the affected areas, providing food and beverages to emergency responders, and distributing emergency supplies to evacuees.
