 Red Cross Opens Service Delivery Sites Across Missouri
St. Louis Red Cross closes shelters and transitions to disaster recovery casework
St. Louis, MO, Sunday, March 23, 2008 –The American Red Cross continues to provide emergency support to individuals and families affected by the flooding across Missouri. As the floodwaters begin to recede and people are able to return to their homes, the support role of the American Red Cross is transitioning to a recovery mode.
Red Cross Services across Missouri:
While the need for shelters to house people has declined, the need for clean up supplies and individual and family assistance continues. To respond to these changing needs the Red Cross will open three Service Delivery Sites on Monday, March 24, 2008 at these locations:
Clearwater Family Youth Center--Highway 34E, Piedmont, MO (Wayne County)
Black River Coliseum--301 S. 5th Street, Poplar Bluff, MO (Butler County)
VFW Hall--18762 Highway C, Advance, MO (Stoddard County)
Service Delivery Sites are situated in areas where large numbers of evacuees are located; Red Cross workers at Service Delivery Sites provide individual and family assistance to residents impacted by the devastating floods in southern Missouri area and will be available daily from 8:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. beginning on Monday, March 24, 2008 as long as there is a need. Cleaning supplies, drinking water and other support supplies will also be available at these Service Delivery Sites. Red Cross Services in the St. Louis Area:
While larger scale services are needed in Southern Missouri, Red Cross shelters in the St. Louis area are now CLOSED and Red Cross help has transitioned from group assistance to individual assistance which is handled by trained Red Cross caseworkers one-on-one; all individuals and families who live in the Greater St. Louis area, have been impacted by flooding, and are in need of shelter, food, emergency supplies and mental health support are encouraged to call the St. Louis Area Chapter of the American Red Cross at 314.516.2800.
About Red Cross Disaster Services:
Red Cross individual and family assistance is designed to minimize the immediate suffering caused by a disaster and are provided, free of charge to anyone who is impacted by the disaster. All Red Cross assistance is given on a case-by-case basis, depending on the individual emergency needs of each case. Red Cross assistance is intended to support the independent recovery efforts of disaster victims. Residents should bring identification with them that shows their address in the flooded areas. The Red Cross provides services fairly to all persons regardless of race, religion, national origin, legal status and sexual orientation.
The Red Cross Service Delivery Sites represent one component of the several disaster relief services that the Red Cross will continue to provide to the residents of the southern Missouri area as long as it is needed, including shelter, food, cleanup supplies, water and mental health counseling.
