First-Annual Community Heroes Day Hosted By City of St. Charles and Red Cross Generates Good Turnout
St. Charles County a safer place to live with more people certified to save a life
St. Louis, April 28, 2008 – Sixty-two people received their CPR certification and more than 40 units of blood were donated at the first-annual Community Heroes Day held recently at the St. Charles Convention Center. The City of St. Charles hosted this event in partnership with the American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter to help train people on how to save a life and become a hero. The event offered CPR and First Aid training classes, disaster preparedness presentations and a blood donation drive.
Mayor Patricia M. York of the City of St. Charles,St. Charles Chief of Police Dennis Corley and St. Charles Fire Chief Ernie Rhodes participated in the blood drive. “The City of St. Charles took the lead this year to host the first-annual Community Heroes Day in St. Charles County because we want to make our community a safer place to live in, “ said Mayor York. “Our region is better off when we have people who are ready to handle emergency situations before they happen.”
“We’re so proud that our St. Charles community came together to help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies,” said Brad Farber, Supervisor of the St. Charles County Service Center. “Administering CPR, knowing what to do during a disaster and giving blood are three ways people can save a life and become a hero in their community. We look forward to hosting similar events with other St. Charles County municipalities in the future.”
