St. Louis, Tuesday, November 18, 2008 – The St. Louis Area Chapter Celebration Team, comprised of Red Cross volunteers and staff, recently presented the Lifesaver Community Award to the St. Clair Associated Vocational Enterprises, Inc., for encouraging its employees to participate in Red Cross safety training. For more than five years, S.A.V.E. Inc’s commitment to wellness has made the St. Louis community a safer place.
“We are so pleased to recognize S.A.V.E. Inc. with the Lifesaver Community Award for preparing its staff to respond during emergency situations,” said Joyce Bathke, executive officer of health and safety services at the St. Louis Area Chapter.
At the presentation, the Celebration Team recognized S.A.V.E. Inc. employees Deb Classen and James Schnipper. Both are Red Cross Certified Instructors who teach lifesaving First Aid/CPR/AED skills. In less than three years, Deb Classen and James Schnipper have taught nearly 400 of their co-workers First Aid and CPR. That is nearly 400 people who know how to save a life.
In addition to First Aid and CPR training, S.A.V.E. Inc. has purchased three Phillips OnSite Automated External Defibrillators. Along with First Aid and CPR, using an AED is crucial in a life-threatening emergency.

About the Red Cross Lifesaver Program:
The Lifesaver Award Program, sponsored by AAA, is designed to inspire others to get trained in First Aid and CPR by recognizing local citizens for preparing themselves to respond in an emergency situation. Last year, the American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter trained more than 82,000 local residents in CPR and First Aid, including more than 17,000 in the use of AEDs. Since its inception in 1984, the Red Cross Lifesaver Program has honored nearly 400 St. Louis heroes. The program supports the Red Cross mission to help our communities prevent, prepare for and respond to disasters and emergencies. In 2007, the St. Louis Area Chapter expanded the Lifesaver Award Program to include the Lifesaver Community Awards.
About the American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter:
