The St. Louis Area Chapter dispatched a Disaster Action Team to the scene of a four-unit apartment fire in Richmond Heights on Friday afternoon to provide support for the recovery effort of all those affected.

5/29/2006 - Red Cross Disaster Action Team Responds to High Ridge Apartment Fire

The Jefferson County Service Center in Arnold dispatched a Disaster Action Team to an apartment fire in the 5800-block of Stieren in High Ridge on Monday morning. Volunteers provided assistance on the scene and caseworkers will support up to 12 people in their recovery effort.

A Disaster Action Team from the St. Louis Area Chapter responded to a house fire in the 8700-block of South Grand in St. Louis on Tuesday afternoon. Red Cross volunteers assisted on the scene and caseworkers will provide support for the family in their recovery effort.

5/29/2006 - Anheuser-Busch Provides Support to the American Red Cross for Hurricane Relief

Anheuser-Busch Companies and its charitable foundation have been long-time supporters of the American Red Cross, and most recently have made significant contributions to the ongoing hurricane relief efforts. Nationally, in preparation for the 2005 Hurricane Season, the company pre-positioned canned drinking water, which was immediately accessible for the Red Cross response to Hurricanes Dennis and Emily. In the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, Anheuser-Busch donated 6.7 million cans of fresh drinking water for distribution by the Red Cross and other relief agencies throughout the affected regions.

5/29/2006 - Volunteers Needed to Support American Red Cross National Disaster Relief Efforts

With tens of thousands of families needing Red Cross assistance for the forseeable future as a result of the 2005 Hurricane Season, the Red Cross is rapidly augmenting its cadre of trained disaster volunteers. The St. Louis Area Chapter plans to recruit and train over 800 new volunteers by November 30.

5/29/2006 - American Red Cross to Dispatch Four Additional Volunteers to Assist in Hurricane Relief Efforts

Four Red Cross volunteers will deploy on Thursday to assist in the ongoing response to the 2005 Hurricane Season, bringing the total number of local Red Cross volunteers responding this season to 40. Phyllis Oppliger, Karen Proffitt and Tonda Van Hoose will deploy to Orlando to assist in the aftermath of Hurricane Wilma, while Holly Webb will deploy to Mississippi to support the ongoing Hurricane Katrina recovery effort.

5/29/2006 - Teddy Bears to be Stuffed, Fluffed and Sent with Love to Children and Families Suffering from Hurricane Katrina

Build-A-Bear Workshop will be holding an event at several area stores and the first 300 guests to each of these locations can make a bear for free to donate to the American Red Cross. The bears will be distributed to children affected by Hurricane Katrina as they relocate with their families to the St. Louis area.

The American Red Cross will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the new St. Charles County Service Center in St. Peters. The ceremony will highlight the diverse programs and services of the Red Cross, while acknowledging the generous contributions of St. Charles County donors who have made the transition to the expanded facility a reality.

5/29/2006 - Red Cross Assists More Than 5,700 Hurricane Evacuees in St. Louis(1)

The St. Louis Area Chapter has provided emergency assistance with food, shelter, clothing, prescription medication, mental health counseling and more to 5,722 people from 2,440 families who have evacuated as a result of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. To date, Red Cross direct aid totals $1.66 million in St. Louis alone.

A Disaster Action Team from the Metro East Service Center responded to two morning fires in East St. Louis on Thursday - a commercial fire in the 2600-block of Missouri Avenue and a house fire in the 1000-block of Bond Avenue. Volunteers provided assistance on the scene and support for individuals affected.

The Red Cross is working in partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, educating people on how to stop the transmission of HIV. Red Cross community presentations are free of charge, designed to reach the community with important information in an effort to save lives.

5/29/2006 - St. Louis Red Cross Provides Shelter for Six Local Families in Wake of Sunday’s Severe Weather

Following Sunday evening's storms, the St. Louis Area Chapter is providing emergency shelter for six families in the Metro East area in Illinois and in Jefferson County, Missouri. Teams of volunteers and staff continue damage assessment throughout the metropolitan area, and the Red Cross remains ready to provide additional emergency assistance as needed.

A Red Cross Disaster Action Team from the Metro East Service Center in Fairview Heights, IL responded to a house fire in the 700-block of N. 76th Street in East St. Louis on Friday morning, providing support in the recovery effort of four individuals and assistance for emergency personnel on the scene.

5/29/2006 - St. Louis Fire Department Donates $10,700 to American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter

Firefighters from the St. Louis Fire Department responded to Hurricane Katrina in an important way by raising more than $30,000 in one day during an organized boot drive, donating the money equally to the American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter, Catholic Charities and the Salvation Army.
