Red Cross Assists More Than 5,700 Hurricane Evacuees in St. Louis
St. Louis Area Chapter caseworkers have met with 5,722 people from 2,440 families who have made their way to St. Louis from areas affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Locally, the Red Cross has disbursed more than $1.66 million in direct aid, assisting families with emergency food, shelter, clothing, prescription medication, mental health counseling and more based upon the needs of the family. |

Weather Service Worsens 2005 Hurricane Outlook
The National Weather Service recently announced that it predicts the 2005 hurricane season will be worse than originally expected, with up to 14 or more storms coming between August and November, and three to five of those becoming major hurricanes. |
