Skip Bryant Volunteers His Time and Talents to Help Others

When Skip Bryant retired from the United States Air Force after 25 years, he decided to devote his free time to the Red Cross as a disaster volunteer. Fourteen years later, Skip is still at it, volunteering several hours a month for the St. Louis Area Chapter.

Mary Anderson, St. Louis Area Chapter manager of disaster readiness and response says, “Skip has held a leadership role in nearly every Red Cross disaster services program, event and service. He is a wonderful person and he has a positive influence on everyone he encounters. We are lucky to count him as a Red Cross volunteer.”

When asked if he has advice for someone who has never volunteered, Skip immediately says, “Give it a shot. After working for 25 years in the Air Force, I thought I had seen everything, but the Red Cross put me in parts of the country I’ve never been to. There is always a sense of newness, and I enjoy being challenged. There is a real feeling of excitement in the volunteering that I do. So my advice is—give it a shot.”

Skip balances his volunteer life with spending time with his family and being a volunteer youth bowling coach. “I am a better coach than I am a bowler,” he says. Skip coaches young players from age five all the way up to high school age kids.
