HIV/AIDS Education Minimize

The Red Cross, working in partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, educates people on how to stop the transmission of HIV, encourages people to respond in informed ways to people who have HIV/AIDS, and helps people apply the facts about HIV/AIDS to their own behavior. These goals are accomplished through our educational programs.The following programs teach instructors how to share vital information about HIV/Aids with various groups.

Basic HIV/AIDS Program (32 hours)
Part 1– Fundamentals – uses fact-based discussion to reinforce information about HIV transmission and prevention, dispel myths about HIV and AIDS and help participants learn from their own experiences and those of others. Part 2– Prevention Skills – helps people apply the facts about HIV and AIDS to real-life situations.

African American HIV/AIDS Program (28 hours)
Sound and reality-based information regarding HIV and AIDS within African American communities, particularly youth.

HiBCGspanic HIV/AIDS Program (24 hours)
Provides information on HIV prevention in a manner that is relevant to Hispanic cultures.

Bridge the Cultural Gap - Understanding the Impact of Culture on Healthcare
A one-day FREE Red Cross training program for healthcare providers to increase and improve cultural understanding of chronic diseases such as HIV/AIDS, diabetes and high blood pressure. For more information, read the brochure or call Kate Johnston at (314) 516.2728.

People to People: Learning to Live with HIV/Aids
ptp2A peer-to-peer education program created by the American Red Cross, in collaboration with Kansas City Free Health Clinic and Midwest AIDS Training and Education Center of Missouri (MATEC-MO) to support individuals living with HIV and AIDS.
