YouthCorps Minimize

The American Red Cross YouthCorps is a team of young people who want to get involved and make a difference in their community. The YouthCorps program provides meaningful opportunities for training, community service and peer-to-peer education for teens ages 12-19. Click to meet some of our Current Members or here to learn about YouthCorps Alum.

You can join a YouthCorps Club at your school or participate in a Club at our Red Cross St. Louis Chapter. If your school does not already have a YouthCorps Club, we can help you get one started, too.

YouthCorps Activities
Check out the many ways in which you can get involved as a YouthCorps member.

Training.  YouthCorps members receive free training and certification in CPR and First Aid. They learn how to use an AED (Automated External Defibrillator). You can even be trained to be a CPR/Fisrt Aid/AED instructor so you can teach your peers and others how to save a life.

Leadership Development. Learn how you can gain leadership skills that will benefit you for life.

Community Service. YouthCorps members help select, plan and implement service projects in the community. Past projects include assembling emergency response backpacks, demonstrating first aid skills at health fairs, teaching young children how to call 9-1-1, assembling comfort kits for disaster relief operations and working at local food banks.

Disaster Preparedness Education. Learn how to be safe during home fires, tornadoes, earthquakes and winter storms.  Learn the importance of each family having a family disaster plan and a family disaster supplies kit.  Then, learn how to teach this important information to elementary school students. Team teach or teach alone, it's up to you.

Disaster Response. Learn how to set up and work in a shelter and help the Red Cross respond quickly to a variety of community needs. Be a part of the chapter Disaster Action Team (DAT) that responds to fires on a daily basis. Sign up for the shift that works for you.  (You must be at least 16 years old to be a DAT member.)

Service to Armed Forces. Support our veterans by going to Jefferson Barracks and playing bingo on Saturday mornings.

Measles Initiative. Raise money to help fight the measles epidemic in Africa and Asia. Team teach and educate others about this opportunity to save a life.

Welcome Basket Project. Lead a project at your school to assemble a Welcome Basket for immigrants and refugees who are new to our community. Welcome Baskets contain household basics, simple things that can mean a great deal when families have nothing.

HIV/AIDS Education. Become an HIV/AIDS educator. Deliver non-judgmental, culturally sensitive, age-appropriate presentations on making smart choices and understanding HIV/AIDS.

Fundraising. Help raise money for the Red Cross.  Learn how to plan an effective fundraiser -- a great skill to have!

Blood Drives. Learn how to plan and run a blood drive from start to finish or volunteer at chapter-sponsored blood drives.
